Nissan GT Academy Philippines – The search is still on!!!

Nissan GT Academy c

Last night Nissan Philippines launched an event that I can say everybody enjoyed. They launched the Nissan GT Media Cup in where the members of the media from print, network and online get to try the Nissan GT Academy pod. Nissan Philippines wanted the media to see and feel what is like to be player and aiming to the future racer car driver.

My experience:

I been driving the roads for 20 years already but trying out playing the Gran Turismo is different. First there not stick-shift that I am accustomed to. I drove local and international roads also when you driving and I am at your side you won’t even think a woman driving that car. I have a heavily tinted car and I drive like a man. hehehe!!!

In using the Nissan GT pod the only way to change gears is by using the steering wheel paddle shifter that is located at the steering wheel. The right paddle is to upshift the gear and the left paddle is for downshift gear. Sound easy right but when your accustomed with a stick shift I guess you go crazy. The pedals available is just the breaks and acceleration. So if you drive an automatic this will just a breeze but for manual drivers like me revving without a clutch is hard.

We have a PS3 at home and we have Gran Turismo but I seldom play with it. I let my boys play because we only have one controller. I just usually watch them play is enough for me. I tried to play I guess 3 times but for me its hard using the controller. I told them that I will play Gran Turismo if we have a set of steering wheels.

During the event its also hard to drive when you can’t hear the revving of the car and when you can’t feel any engine. I drive my car and I change gears base on the sound of engine sound and behavior.

I got to talk to the top 2 who is present during the event. He is CAMERON JORDAN Y. PADILLO and I asked him what his technique. He just mentioned that he only uses one foot for breaking and acceleration. He never driven a car yet but because of Gran Turismo he get the idea of how real driving will be. He very approachable and he says that it make practice to reach the time he has now. Wishing all the finalist and hoping we will have a filipino race driver soon.

Overall

Able to try the game with a complete set of steering wheels and foot paddle made me want to have it also. I love playing with my kids and love driving also. I might as well train my boys for the next Nissan GT Academy Philippines search.
